Ytre Suløens Jass-ensemble med Tricia Boutté
Tribute to Mahalia Jackson
Moldejazz welcomes you to an enchanting church concert on Thursday evening as Tricia and Suløen pay tribute to the legendary gospel star Mahalia Jackson
Ytre Suløens Jass Ensemble has been one of Norway's most popular orchestras since 1973. They play music that also excites people who don't usually listen to jazz much. At the same time, they attract avid jazz fans because the band consists of top-class musicians. YSJE is widely known for its playfulness, top quality, and joy of playing. At the forefront is the fantastic vocalist Tricia Boutté from New Orleans, with charisma and charm that can melt icebergs.
This time, the band fully utilizes Tricia Boutté's magnificent voice in a concert that represents a tribute to Mahalia Jackson, widely regarded as the greatest gospel singer of all time. We will hear Jackson's brilliant repertoire, from the ecstatic swinging to the sacredly beautiful and lyrical, conveyed through vocal grandeur and instrumental mastery.
Ytre Suløen has visited the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival several times with great success in what is considered the birthplace of jazz. Internationally, YSJE is considered a band that preserves traditional jazz in a way few others do. Even though this music was created more than a hundred years ago, it is still as relevant and captivating.
